28 Nov – The organisers of the Switch Off 2014 campaign have met up with National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) at the latter's headquarters complex yesterday. The meeting was conducted in order to discuss two main agendas: the implementation of the Creative Content Industry Act and the Creative Industry Consultative Council, Daily Seni reports. The Switch Off 2014 campaign, which was officially launched last month, is organised by Jurey Latiff Rosli, the president of the Federation of Screen Guild Malaysia (GAFIM). The campaign comprises of several local organisations that are in full favour of enforcing stricter local content rule in the country's broadcast. The name 'Switch Off' refers to the act of switching of the television until the government agrees to practice its 70% local and 30% foreign content policy as stipulated under the Multimedia Act. Switch Off 2014 comprises of Film Directors Association of Malaysia, Professional Film Workers Association of Malaysia, Malaysian Accredited Association of Commercial Film Makers, Malaysian Television Producers Association, Post Production and Animation Association of Malaysia, Actors Guild of Malaysia, Malaysian Musician and Singers Association, Broadcasters Association of Malaysia, Malaysian Indian Entertainers Association and the Creative Writers Guild of Malaysia (CGM). The Creative Content Act that was discussed in the meeting will aid the local entertainment industry in achieving greater aims, with the hopes of turning Malaysia into a regional and global hub for creative content in five years' time. The Act will further be discussed by the new FINAS Director-General, Mr Kamil Othman, with other parties involved in the creative content industry, namely the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM), and Ministry of Communication and Multimedia (KKMM). In the meantime, the Creative Industry Consultative Council will be a platform for FINAS and local industry player to interact in a monthly engagement to ensure that no voices are left out and every issue will be heard and resolved.
