Grand Brilliance the subject of envy

"KIL" has won 5 awards for FFM26, one of them was received during the Officiating Ceremony held last Wednesday.

3 Nov – Grand Brilliance's accomplishment at the 26th Malaysian Film Festival (FFM26) last Saturday, 1 November 2014 had apparently caused dissatisfaction among other local production companies as most of the nominees and winners of the big night were from Grand Brilliance.

When Cinema Online met Grand Brilliance managing director Tengku Iesta Tengku Alaudin, he mentioned that he never expected that the nominees for the Best Film award and other categories would mostly be from his company.

"I guess it is my luck, I never would have thought that most of our films would be nominated. So I joked with Yusof Haslam [Skop Productions] saying that 'It's either I'll go up with you (to take the awards) or I'll go with Gayatri [Tayangan Unggul].'"

Tengku Iesta also said that because of this, he received many allegations and complaints from other production companies, "I feel like they shouldn't have argued about this, we all have our own luck and instead of arguing, they should have shown support."

"We should not belittle those who have worked hard for the films because they deserve it."

He also added that the award could be a big step for Grand Brilliance to produce more high quality films, "Hopefully this achievement can be an encouragement for other new producers and writers."

Furthermore, Tengku Iesta commented that he did not expect that "KIL" would win the Best Film award as it is only a small scale film, unlike the other films that were nominated.

"The jury must have seen something special in KIL, even though it is a small scale film, it has a big worth," he continued.

Aside from the Best Film award, "KIL" also won Best Screenplay, Best Director through Nik Amir Mustapha, Most Promising Actress through Cristina Suzanne, and also Best Poster at the Officiating Ceremony held last Wednesday, 29 October 2014 at Empire Hotel, Subang.
