"I Am Legend" gets a reboot

"I Am Legend" to return, sans Will Smith.

7 Oct – After many failed attempts to produce prequels and sequels to the 2007 high-grossing post-apocalyptic movie "I Am Legend", Warner Bros. has reportedly settled on a reboot.

The studio has picked up a script by unknown writer Gary Graham, originally titled "A Garden at the End of the World", and is tweaking it to serve as the screenplay for the upcoming reboot, Screen Rant reports.

Graham's script is originally written as a science fiction version of John Wayne's "The Searchers". The Apple store employee received a call from Warner Bros. to rewrite it after the studio sees enough similarities between the script and its "Legend" movie to warrant it as the next "I Am Legend".

Don't hold your breath for Will Smith to return for the second "Legend", however. The actor is well-known for his aversion toward sequels – discounting his highly successful "Men in Black" and "Bad Boys" franchise.

"I Am Legend" is adapted from Richard Matheson's novel of the same name. It stars Will Smith as Dr. Robert Neville in a post-apocalyptic world, where everyone has turned into a horde of light-fearing zombies of a sort. Neville is the last healthy man on earth and is working on finding a cure for the virus that has nearly wiped out man's existence.

There is no word yet on when production will begin but Jonathan Krauss and Ian Puente are confirmed as executive producers.
