"Negaraku" back in cinemas this August

Last year moviegoers stood as soon as "Negaraku" started playing in cinemas.

27 Jun – In conjunction with Malaysia's 57th Independence Day, cinemas nationwide will once again be playing the national anthem, "Negaraku" before the start of every movie.

The announcement was made by Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek who said that the decision was made looking at last year's response by moviegoers and cinemas alike.

Similar to last year, two patriotic promotional clips with a total runtime of four minutes, titled "Pesanan Terakhir" and "Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku" will play before the national anthem, "Negaraku".

Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek met up with cinema operators last year to discuss the initiative.

For this year, the clip will commence a week before 31 August, where last year the clip ran from 28 August to 3 September and then again on 16 September for Malaysia Day.

However it remains to be seen if the clips will continue playing for a whole month, as Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek did mention last year that the 2013 trial run was to make it more organised for a month long run this year.
