"Raid" star Iko Uwais in "Beyond Skyline"


Iko Uwais fights off extraterrestrials this time around.

10 Nov – "The Raid" star Iko Uwais has been confirmed to join the upcoming spinoff to 2010 movie, "Skyline", Den of Geek reports.

"Skyline" fans have almost given up on a sequel since directors Greg and Colin Strause have been quiet for the past four years. As it turned out, anticipating audience will be getting a spin-off instead. The brothers have chosen to act as producers and will not be directing this time around, as Liam O'Donnel will be the one writing and directing the upcoming spinoff, "Beyond Skyline".

Iko Uwais will be starring opposite Frank Grillo, who will play a father looking for his abducted child while Uwais plays the part of a leader of an underground resistance that forms after aliens invaded earth.

The Indonesian martials arts actor first appeared in Gareth Evans' 2009's "Merantau" and went on to gain wider international fame through 2012's "The Raid: Redemption" and 2014's "The Raid 2: Berandal". In 2013, he appeared in Keanu Reeves "Man of Tai Chi".

Uwais will be showing off his martial arts skills once again in the upcoming spinoff. Also joining him will be his "Raid" co-star Yayan Ruhian and both are set to choreograph the fight scenes.

"Beyond Skyline" is expected to invade cinemas in 2016.
