25 Aug – Born on 29 August 1923, acclaimed actor-director Richard Attenborough passes away a few days shy of his 91st birthday. CBS News reported that the actor's son, Michael Attenborough, informed the British Broadcasting Corporation on Sunday of his father's sudden passing. It was also stated that the "Jurassic Park" actor had been in poor health for the past two years. He was wheelchair bound and living in a nursing home with his wife.
Attenborough most acclaimed work is his epic biographical "Gandhi". The film won eight Oscars and was nominated for three more, one of the Oscars being Best Director. He had won numerous awards including four Golden Globe Awards and four BAFTA awards, for his works as either an actor or a director. With a career spanning six decades, Attenborough had been in many films, with his role as John Hammond in "Jurassic Park" being the most prominent. Other films he had acted in include "Brighton Rock", "The Great Escape" and "Miracle on 34th Street", among others. Attenborough is surived by his wife Sheila Sim, son Michael and daughter Charlotte.
