19 Feb - While "The Lego Movie" has been the significant chart topper in both the United States and Singapore for last box office weekend (14 - 16 February), Malaysia has a taste for its own, with the heartwarming Malaysian Chinese film "The Journey" topping the weekend box office chart. "The Journey" is a cross continental story that explores the idea of culture, not just as a tradition but as an expression of love. Bee brings home her British fiance to meet her dad, who disapproves their marriage due to the guy's lack of cultural understanding and comprehension of Chinese traditions, but gives in anyway. "The Journey" beat last week's champion in Malaysia, "Robocop" and the Chinese New Year themed Hong Kong film "Golden Chickensss".
In Singapore, "The Lego Movie" beats "Lone Survivor" and "Robocop" in second and third place, respectively. "Love Survivor", which stars Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch and Emile Hirsch, is about Marcus Luttrell and his team who set out on a mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, in late June 2005. Marcus and his team are left to fight for their lives in one of the most valiant efforts of modern warfare. In the U.S., "The Lego Movie" topped "About Last Night", "RoboCop" and "The Monuments Men", which fell in second, third and fourth place respectively. Other new movies that opened in Malaysia last week are "Gunday", "Cuak", "Endless Love", "That Awkward Moment", "Hasee Toh Phasee", "Bullets Over Petaling Street", "The Book Thief" and "Vampire Academy". Other new movies that opened in Singapore last week are "Endless Love", "That Awkward Moment", "Philomena", "Winter's Tale", "Lone Survivor", "Fly Me To The Moon", "A Case of You", "I'm so Excited", "V/H/S 2", "Idhu Kathirvelan Kaahdal", "Gunday" and "The Monkey King".
