Yasmin Ahmad gets Google Doodle

Today's Google Doodle honours Yasmin Ahmad.

7 Jan – Four and a half years after her death, renowned film director Yasmin Ahmad is still remembered and Google has honoured her with her very own Google Doodle today to celebrate her birthday.

Yasmin Ahmad, who died on July 25, 2009 at the age of 51, received the doodle tribute which features a water-coloured picture of Yasmin, along with the Google logo stylised in the "Sepet" movie poster typeface.

The director has a number of acclaimed films under her belt including "Sepet", "Gubra" and "Talentime" and was also known for making a string of memorable Petronas advertisements, most of them that tug your heartstrings.

This is the first time a Malaysian figure has been featured on a Malaysian Google Doodle, as the previous Malaysian tributes only featured days and holidays like Merdeka, Hari Raya and Chinese New Year.

Doodles for Google around the world are the fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists.

Since then, the team 'Doodler's as the creators of doodles are known has created over 1000 doodles for the Google homepages around the world.

The simple doodle which features her smiling face reminds us quite simply of the very talented woman who loved Malaysia very much.
