Chris Hemsworth may lead "Allan Quatermain" next

Chris Hemsworth will be seen next in "In the Heart of the Sea".

25 Nov – Australian actor Chris Hemsworth may be most well-known to moviegoers as the God of Thunder from the "Thor" franchise, but it looks like the actor is set to lead another franchise soon.

The 32-year-old is reportedly in talks to star as adventurer Allan Quatermain in an upcoming adaptation by Sony Pictures, according to The Tracking Board.

The "Thor" star will be playing a younger version of the character, it seems, which was last portrayed by Sean Connery in the movie adaptation of Alan Moore's "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" series.

Quatermain, who is introduced to the world in 1885 as the main character in H. Rider Haggard's novel "King Solomon's Mines" and later in the novel's subsequent sequels, also served as one of the inspirations for Indiana Jones.

Reportedly, Dreamworks is also working on an adaptation, with Sam Worthington ("Avatar", "Everest") attached to star, though no news have been heard of the project for quite some time.

As for the Sony-Hemsworth project, it is hoped that the movie will kickstart a whole new franchise for the company.

Hemsworth is keeping busy at the moment with his various movie projects, including playing the secretary in 2016's "Ghostbusters", starring as the titular huntsman in 2016's "The Huntsman: Winter's War" and returning as Thor in 2017's "Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok".

The actor also showcases an astonishing transformation as a sailor lost at sea in the upcoming "In the Heart of the Sea", opening in cinemas this December.
