Spot and Arlo in "The Good Dinosaur". |
1 Dec – "The Good Dinosaur" managed to make a good debut as it opened at number one at the Malaysia and Singapore weekend box office for 26 to 29 November 2015.
It didn't do so shabbily either in the U.S., as it landed at number two on its opening weekend.
However, it did not manage to surpass reigning first placer, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2", which made another USD52 million at the U.S. domestic box office, based on Box Office Mojo stats, bringing the current gross of the final instalment in the franchise to USD442.2 million worldwide.
The aforementioned movie "The Good Dinosaur" opened at number two with USD39.1 million. High as that may be, it is however the lowest opening for a Pixar movie ever.
By comparison, another 2015 Pixar movie, "Inside Out", made USD90.4 million on its opening weekend, placing third on the animation company's highest opening weekend gross. Still, "The Good Dinosaur" is not a flop by any means, worldwide it currently has grossed USD84.1 million.
Ryan Coogler's boxing movie, "Creed", opened third at the U.S. weekend box office to the tune of USD29.6 million. Starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone, the movie currently has a USD44.3 million worldwide gross.
Daniel Radcliffe-starrer, "Victor Frankenstein", also had a good debut in M'sia and S'pore. |
In Malaysia, "The Good Dinosaur" opened on top, it could be due to the higher traffic of younger children in the cinemas during the country's school holiday season. This pushed Jennifer Lawrence-starrer, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" down to number two. "Victor Frankenstein", starring Daniel Radcliffe (or probably more recognised by everyone as Harry Potter), opened at number three.
The tweaked adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel, "Frankenstein", did not do well on its opening weekend in the U.S., not even breaking the top 10 as it landed at number 12. But over at this side of the world, the movie is definitely well-received enough to secure it in the top three.
Even in Singapore, "Victor Frankenstein" opened at number three. Mirroring Malaysia's chart, "The Good Dinosaur" also opened at number one while "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" moved down a spot to number two.
Malaysia's other new movies for last weekend are "Keeper of Darkness", "Inji Iduppazhagi", "The Vanished Murderer", "Banglo Berkunci", "Tamasha", "Sinaran", "Date A Live The Movie: Nayuri Judgement" and "Uppu Karuvadu".
Other new movies in Singapore for last weekend are "144", "Tamasha", " Inji Iduppazhagi", "Bad Guys Always Die", "Jem And The Holograms", "Mukhtiar Chadha", "Macbeth", "Keeper of Darkness" and "Creed".
