15 June – The fourth instalment of the "Jurassic Park" franchise has proven itself to be a box office monster, as "Jurassic World" becomes the world's first ever movie to earn more than half a billion on its opening weekend. With a global earning of USD511.8 million, it now holds the world's highest worldwide opening record, a title previously held by 2011's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" with its USD483.2 million. Trailing behind the two is another Universal Pictures movie, "Fast and Furious 7", which made a USD397.6 million worldwide opening. In the U.S., "Jurassic World" collected USD204.6, placing second just behind 2012's "Marvel's The Avengers" with its USD207.4 million, and ahead of third place 2015's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" which made USD191.2 million.
The figure means the Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard-starrer now claims the title as Universal's biggest opening domestic weekend. Based on Box Office Mojo stats, this beats Universal's previous record holder "Fast and Furious 7", which opened in the U.S. with USD147.1 million. The dinosaur movie's remaining USD307.2 was collected internationally overseas. This also makes it Universal's highest-grossing international weekend, again defeating "Fast and Furious 7" which previously held the record with its USD250.4 million. This year, Universal has already seen two of its blockbusters breaking records around the globe. Other than "Fast and Furious 7" and "Jurassic World", the studio has also had successes with their other 2015 releases including "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "Pitch Perfect 2". Upcoming anticipated 2015 releases from Universal include "Ted 2", "Minions" and "Steve Jobs".
