New "Mary Poppins" set 20 years later

Disney is making a new "Mary Poppins".

16 Sep – Time to whip out that umbrella, because Disney is set to whisk you away on another 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' journey!

"Mary Poppins" fans would be happy to know that Disney is planning a brand new version of the beloved classic movie.

The new "Mary Poppins" will take place 20 years after the events of the first movie. According to Entertainment Weekly, it is not being developed as a sequel since it will feature an all-new story along with all new songs.

The new live-action movie, which will still be a musical, will be directed by "Into the Woods" helmer Rob Marshall. "Life of Pi" scribe David Magee is penning the script.

A movie still from 1964's "Mary Poppins".

"Mary Poppins" was first released in 1964. Directed by Robert Stevenson, it starred Julie Andrews in her Oscar-winning role as the titular English nanny who helped a banker and his unhappy family reconnect with each other.

2013's "Saving Mr. Banks", starring Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, also brought back the Mary Poppins tale to the silver screen as it tells the story of author P.L. Travers who at first refused to let Walt Disney adapt her "Mary Poppins" book series into a movie.

Last year, fans almost fell for an online hoax that claimed Tim Burton was directing a gritty remake of "Mary Poppins", with Cate Blanchett as the lead. The movie poster that accompanied the 'news' was later revealed to have been photoshopped by pranksters.
