Salman's prison sentence suspended

Will Salman Khan need to spend his 5-year prison sentence?

8 May – Just yesterday, Bollywood star Salman Khan was sentenced to five years in prison, but today new reports have emerged that the actor's sentence has been suspended.

The 49-year-old actor who was found guilty on 7 May 2015 for his 2002 drunk driving hit-and-run case which killed one and injured four others, was out on a two-day interim bail before starting his sentence.

Today, the Bombay high court has announced its suspension of the sentence to fix another date in June or July pending a fresh appeal, reports the Hindustan Times.

When the news of the suspension reached the crowd that were gathered outside of the courthouse, fans broke out in celebration causing the police to use force to disperse them.

The diehard fans have been waiting outside of the courthouse since Khan's hearing early yesterday.

It is expected that Khan's final appeal and verdict will be delivered in the next few months, which would also bring a ultimate conclusion to the case.

Khan still has two upcoming films; "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" and "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" - which is at 90 percent completion - that were supposed to be released within this year.

The fate of the two movies remain unknown.
