2 Dec – Just two days after actor and comedian Yus (Jambu) has passed away, the local entertainment industry is once again rocked by the sad news of yet another artiste passing on. Legendary actress Mariani was reported to have breathed her last at 7.32 pm last night. Mariani, born Siti Mariam Ismail, 82, had been battling health issues since being diagnosed with colon cancer a year ago. "One week ago, mummy was starting to become weak and at around six this morning, she had fallen into a coma at home. "Before this, she used to stay with me but last Saturday, she asked to be brought to my sister Sasha's (Siti Haslinda Abdul Hamid) house," said Melissa Saila, the late actress' youngest child, according to Utusan Online. The late actress is laid to rest at Tanah Perkuburan Islam Jalan Ampang at 10am today, near to where the lateTan Sri P. Ramlee dan the late Puan Sri Saloma also lay in peace. The Singapore-born actress, who was the sister to Primadona Saloma, was one of the leading actresses during the golden era of Studio Jalan Ampas. During her acting career, Mariani had starred in over 40 movies since 1952, including "Tiga Abdul", "Saudagar Minyak Urat" and "Setinggan".
