22 Sep – The search for the next FINAS (National Film Development Corporation) chairman is over as Perak state assemblyman YB Dato' Mohd Khusairi Haji Abdul Talib has recently been appointed to the role. The new chairman received his Letter of Appointment from Minister of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia YB Senator Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Mohd Salleh Tun Said Keruak at the ceremony held in Putrajaya yesterday. His position as the new FINAS chairman is effective from 9 September 2015 until 8 September 2017. YB Dato' Mohd Khusairi, who is also the state assemblyman for Slim River, Perak, hopes to bring more growth to the local movie industry. Some changes can be foreseen as the new chairman is dissatisfied with the current state of local scripts.
Calling the scripts dull and nonsensical, Khusairi urged local filmmakers to take scriptwriting more seriously in order to avoid boring the audience and making them less interested in local productions. "Nonsensical scripts are the cause," said Khusairi, as quoted by Kosmo! "Audiences are also tricked by strong promotions but when they go to the cinemas, the movies turn out to be very boring." Khusairi takes over the role recently vacated by Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who held the position for less than two months before having to resign due to being named Minister in the Prime Minister Department.
