30 Dec – National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) has announced Dato' Fauzi Ayob as their new Director General effective 1 January 2017. The new chief was understood to be appointed right after former Director General Dato' Kamil Othman's contract ended on 9 November. This was according to Sinar Harian, who reported that Fauzi Ayob, former Deputy Director General (Production and Communication) was appointed as a temporary replacement while Malaysian Multimedia and Communication Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Keruak, decides on the new FINAS Director. Meanwhile, the Deputy Director General post is also occupied by a relatively new comer, Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib. For those of you who don't know, Azmir Saifuddin was formerly the Senior Director of FINAS under the commercial sector. The announcement was made by FINAS Chairman, Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, during the cheque Incentive Presentation ceremony for feature films in Hulu Kelang. The post came to question recently when Kamil Othman caused a slight uproar when he announced his retirement from the position. Several filmmakers, artist and moviegoers claimed that he is the right man for the job and should not retire. But now, it's time for the former director to step down and make way for newer generations to hold the responsibility and uphold FINAS. (Photo Source: Cine Papaya)
