13 Jan – "The Chronicles of Narnia" had a good run as a movie franchise, with its three movies from 2005 to 2010, though it was abruptly ended after the third instalment. However, hopes for a continuation has sparked once again following Collider's report that a fourth movie is indeed coming to the big screen. One thing to note, this will be a completely different take on the C. S. Lewis book series adaptation. The script is still based on the fourth book, "The Silver Chair", but don't expect to see any of the actors reprising their roles as the movie will feature new characters. This means the upcoming movie will not be a sequel to the previous movies, it will reboot the franchise instead. Back in 2013, The Mark Gordon Company and The C.S. Lewis Company took back the film rights from The Walden Group, hence the divergence from the former series.
Confirming that it is "going to be a brand new franchise", producer Mark Gordon also said that it will be "All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from." Fans who do not want the new franchise to deviate from the former, worry not, despite Gordon calling the new characters "original", he assures that they will still be based on characters already in the book. It is not known yet when "The Silver Chair" will start filming but the producer hoped for it to be done "very shortly". The first "Narnia" movie that kickstarted the previous movie series was 2005's "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". It then spawned two sequels, 2008's "Prince Caspian" and 2010's "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader". The franchise unfortunately underperformed and since each movie required approximately USD200 million to make (with "Prince Caspian" requiring USD225 million), it was decided that a fourth movie will have to wait.
