Rowan Atkinson's "Johnny English 3" starts production

Rowan Atkinson is back as the titular agent in "Johnny English 3".

4 Aug – It's 'bean' some time but Rowan Atkinson is back as the accidental secret agent, Johnny English.

Production has officially begun, as evident from the most recent post on the Twitter page of Working Title, the film production company behind the spy comedy series.

A photo of the set was posted on the page accompanied by the caption "He's back!" along with the hashtag #JohnnyEnglish3.

While there was no Atkinson mug surreptitiously grinning in the background, it was already known that the 62-year-old English actor is reprising the role, as confirmed back in May.

There's still no update on the plot or the rest of the cast, but director David Kerr is the one helming the movie this time around, taking over from Peter Howitt, who directed the original, and Oliver Parker, who directed the sequel.

The post announcing the production commencement came with this photo

The world was first introduced to the hilarious secret agent in 2003's "Johnny English", which parodies James Bond-style spy films and, of course, features a touch of Atkinson's most famous funny-man character, Mr. Bean.

Grossing USD160.5 million worldwide against a USD40 million budget, this led to a sequel being churned out in 2011, bearing the title "Johnny English 2", which made USD160 million on a USD45 million budget, based on Box Office Mojo stats.

The third instalment will mark Atkinson's return to the big screen, after his last stint in the 2011 movie.

"Johnny English 3" is scheduled for release in October 2018.
