"Deadpool 2" just confirmed who's playing Cable

Deadpool and Cable's dynamic in the comic books.

13 Apr – After an entire year of rumoured castings and speculation, the perfect guy has been tapped to be the Cable to Ryan Reynold's titular anti-hero in the sequel to the surprise blockbuster, "Deadpool".

The Hollywood Reporter said it first, it's Oscar nominee, Josh Brolin-the same guy who played Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Just give yourself a second to let the surprise and confusion sink in. You're not the first.

Even Reynolds was somewhat taken aback and responded jokingly on Twitter: "You can't play 2 characters in the same universe!! Josh Brolin was in "Sicario" and I was in "Sabrina The Teenage Witch"."

(Actually, Brolin was not in "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and Deadpool is not in the same universe as "The Avengers".)

Surprise and shock aside, no one's mad about the decision to cast Brolin. And it's not like anyone can confuse Thanos for Cable or vice versa-one of them is part Cyborg and the other's purple!

This makes Brolin the second actor to play two different Marvel characters for two different studios. (Chris Evans was the first, starring as Johnny Storm in the earlier "Fantastic Four" films before he was Captain America.)

It's said that Brolin has also signed a four-picture deal to portray Cable. His character, Thanos, is also expected to play a bigger role in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War", so you can expect to see more of him onscreen in upcoming years.

In the comic books, Cable is Nathan Summers, the son of X-Men's Scott Summers and Madelyn Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey. He inherited his mother's psychic powers and he has a metal arm. Cable is the time-traveling, stern friend of the Merc with the Mouth. Together, they've starred in a series of comics titled "Cable & Deadpool" or sometimes "Deadpool & Cable".

"Deadpool 2" is set to release in March 2018. Ryan Reynolds will return to reprise his role as the titular character and Zazie Beetz has been cast as the mutant Domino.
