"Deadpool 2" stunt driver killed on set

The cast and crew of "Deadpool 2" are all saddened by the news.

15 Aug – A stunt driver was revealed to have died on the set of "Deadpool 2" while attempting to film a motorcycle scene.

Confirmed by the Vancouver Police through Twitter, the fatal accident took place on Monday morning, in which the motorcycle and its driver crashed through a plate-glass window at Shaw Tower on West Waterfront Road after losing control.

Deadline reported that the stuntperson, who has been identified as Joi "SJ" Harris, was the first African-American female professional road racer who will be making her first stunt appearance through this movie.

"Deadpool" lead Ryan Reynolds posted his condolences via Twitter, expressing that his heart pours out to her loved ones and those she touched in this world.

Eyewitness accounts claimed that the stunt had been rehearsed four times, but on the fifth attempt the driver appeared to have lost control of the motorcycle, accelerating when it was supposed to slow down as she neared the corner.

Harris was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred, as the character Domino (who she was playing) did not wear one in the scene.

The movie has been in production since late June, with director David Leitch at the helm, who expressed his condolences in a statement, "No words can express how I and the rest of the "Deadpool 2" crew feel about this tragedy. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones in this difficult time."

Studio 20th Century Fox has also given its condolences earlier Monday saying, "Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time."

"Deadpool 2" is set to hit theaters in June 2018.
