12 Jul – With its latest location being the flagship cinema at The Starling, Damansara Uptown, it is only fitting that local exhibitor MBO Cinemas celebrates its grand launch with a star-studded party dubbed MBO Stellar Night. The grand launch was held yesterday at the new cinema's location, attended by the crème de la crème and bigwigs of the local entertainment industry, which includes not only filmmakers and actors but also singers and influencers. Red carpet lined the path from Somerset to The Starling, as stars made their way to the welcome stage, where emcee Serena C interviewed each of them before letting them make their way to the elevators to ascend to where the core of the party is held – the new MBO The Starling.
"We built MBO Starling with the intention of changing how the cinematic industry was presented to the consumers," said Chief Executive Officer of MBO, Mr. Lim Eng Hee, who officiated the launch. "We wanted to create a cinema that could provide a more immersive, and a more holistic experience compared to what has been presented to the consumers in the same way for the last decade." The new cinema is definitely a game-changer, with its 10 halls, four of which consist of the concept halls: MBO Kecil, Premier hall, MBO Big Screen and the MX4D hall, the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia. It has been open to the public since early April, giving fans the chance to try out the various concept halls.
With Patricia K and Joey G hosting the party, MBO Stellar Night was one night to remember. The party was not the only highlight of the night as all invited guests were also treated to the screening of "War for the Planet of the Apes" at the concept halls, followed by an after-party featuring DJ Tiana. MBO Cinemas currently has 27 locations nationwide. By this year, the cinema chain aims to have a total of 30 locations and 232 screens.
