29 Nov – The "X-Men" universe has been all about pushing boundaries nowadays it seems, because even the upcoming James Franco-starrer might be heading down the path not often taken by superhero movies.
Franco, who was reported to star as Multiple Man in an upcoming Fox adaptation, just told Hollywood Reporter that he's planning for it to be an R-rated movie.
"What I love about what Simon Kinberg and Fox and the "X-Men" people have done with "Deadpool" and "Logan" – it took a while to get there, maybe 10 years – but they are going to go hard R," said James Franco.
"And we're going to take this superhero thing and really just push it into a new genre. So we're working with Simon Kinberg on an "X-Men" property."
The "X-Men" universe started venturing into the R-rated territories with "Logan" and "Deadpool", which were met with much success. Looks like Franco's "Multiple Man" will be continuing the trend.
First seen on the big screen portrayed by Eric Dane in 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand", Jamie Madrox a.k.a. Multiple Man is a thief whose mutant power is, as his name implies, the ability to create duplicates of himself.
Franco didn't delve further into what he plans to do with the character but several Francos onscreen will undoubtedly lead to some entertaining chaos.
Aside from "Multiple Man", upcoming "X-Men" movies include 2018 releases "The New Mutants", which reportedly will have a more horror touch to it; the "Deadpool" sequel, with the return of Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth; "X-Men: Dark Phoenix", starring Sophia Turner who will be reprising her role as Jean Grey; and the 2019 Channing Tatum-starrer "Gambit".
