"The Lion King" has found its Timon and Pumbaa

"Hakuna Matata!"

26 Apr – The candidates to voice one of Disney's most iconic duos for the live-action adaptation of "The Lion King" have been narrowed down.

Of course, we are talking about the lovable meerkat and warthog, Timon and Pumbaa.

According to The Wrap, comedy stars Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner are currently in final negotiations to voice Timon and Pumbaa, but we're sure that they'll be given the part, if not begged to take it on because what better choice is there?

Rogen has voiced many different animated characters before, such as Mantis in the "Kung Fu Panda" trilogy and most recently as Frank in "Sausage Party". Eichner, meanwhile, is best known as the host of "Billy on the Street" which earned him a Daytime Emmy.

Timon and Pumbaa are the two male characters, who just happen to live together, who end up taking in the hero, Simba, and raising him from a traumatised cub into the Lion King.

Interpret that as you may.

These two are also responsible for one of the most memorable songs in Disney history, "Hakuna Matata", it means "no worries" for the rest of your days.

In the original animation, Nathan Lane voiced Timon and Ernie Sabella voiced Pumbaa. So far, James Earl Jones is the only person from the cast of the 1994 animation reported to reprise his role as Mufasa. Mufasa's son, Simba, will be voiced by Donald Glover.

Jeff Nathanson is writing the script and Jon Favreau will be directing.

Recently, Disney announced the release date for the remake of "The Lion King" to be 19 July 2019 as well as the release dates for other upcoming productions, including "Star Wars: Episode IX" (24 May 2019), "Frozen 2" (27 November 2019), and "Indiana Jones" (10 July 2020).
