"Ready Player One" author's second novel to get film adaptation

After "Ready Player One", another Ernest Cline novel is being adapted for the big screen.

4 Apr – Only a week after "Ready Player One's" theatrical release, another Ernest Cline novel is going to be made into a feature movie.

"Armada", Cline's second novel, is reportedly being adapted for the big screen by Universal Pictures, with writer Dan Mazeau on board to pen the project. .

Cline and Mazeau are both currently writing a draft for the planned "Armada" movie adaptation and will have Dan Farah, who produced "Ready Player One", and Dylan Clark producing the movie, as reported by Deadline. .

Like "Ready Player One", "Armada" relies heavily on '80s and '90s pop culture nostalgia as it follows Zack Lightman, who plays an online video game about defending against an alien invasion, only to find out that the game is a simulator intended to prepare him and other players for a real alien invasion. .

If everything goes well, "Armada" will predictably follow the successes of "Ready Player One", which garnered over USD54 million during its weekend debut, making it the second biggest opening weekend at the U.S. this year, falling behind "Black Panther"..

Because of the successes Cline is getting, there are rumours circulating that he is writing another "Ready Player One" novel, which might eventually become a possible big screen sequel. .

"Ready Player One", starring Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, and Mark Rylance, is currently showing in cinemas worldwide.
