"Batgirl" gets "Bumblebee" writer to replace Joss Whedon

"Batgirl" gets a new writer after Joss Whedon left the DCEU project.

10 Apr – The Bat-signal is lit up once again as Warner Bros. has hired a new writer for the upcoming "Batgirl" solo movie.

Just two months after writer-director Joss Whedon's exit, Warner Bros. has tapped Christina Hodson to pen a new script for the movie as part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Hodson, whose writing credits include "Shut In" and "Unforgettable", is no stranger to the DCEU as she had written a screenplay for the still-in-development "Birds of Prey", a movie which was rumoured to have Margot Robbie reprise her role as Harley Quinn in an all-female supervillain group..

The English writer's latest work would be the "Transformers" spin-off, "Bumblebee", which will come out this December.

The idea of a solo "Batgirl" movie came about when Whedon shared his interest in writing and directing the movie focusing on Barbara Gordon, but failed to come up with a story and backed out of the project in February 2018.

The fictional character of Batgirl was once portrayed by Alicia Silverstone in 1997's "Batman & Robin" but was slammed by critics and won Silverstone a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actress.
