19 Aug - Apart from the usual Hollywood and local fare, over the years Malaysians have been lucky enough to experience a vast array of films from other countries via their respective film festivals. The inaugural Vietnamese Film Festival (VFF) will be making its debut in Malaysia this 23 to 29 August 2018, thanks to the GSC Group of Companies who is the sole organiser of the event - usually film festivals like these are co-organised with foreign embassies in Malaysia - with Cinema Online as the official media partner. The week-long film event will bring over five wonderful Vietnamese films just in time for the Vietnamese Independence Day that will take place this 2 September 2018, which also serves as the perfect opportunity to celebrate GSC's partnership with Galaxy Media & Entertainment in Vietnam.
"We see Film Festivals as an enabler in stimulating greater awareness of the arts and in bridging cultures through foreign language films. Owing to our strong partnership with Galaxy Media & Entertainment, we decided to collaborate with GSC Movies as a Group to host the VFF to further diversify the content that are available to Malaysian movie-goers," said Ms. Koh Mei Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Screen Cinemas who was dressed elegantly in a yellow Ao Dai, a traditional Vietnamese garment.
In 2013, GSC first ventured into Vietnam acquiring stake in Galaxy Studio Joint Stock Company (Galaxy Studio), an established film exhibitor and distributor in the fast-rising country, allowing the former a selection of Vietnamese movies. During the launch event that took place at GSC Pavilion KL recently, Cinema Online got to catch the screening of "Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass" (2015), a beautifully shot film featuring the great lush landscapes of Vietnamese hills and rice terraces, which also featured a heart-warming story about two brothers as they navigate their lives in this coming of age story.
The Vietnamese Film Festival will be screening its movies exclusively at GSC Pavilion KL; GSC Mid Valley Megamall, GSC 1 Utama; GSC Paradigm JB and GSC Gurney Plaza Penang Tickets to each movie are priced at only RM10 and will go on sale from 21 August 2018 onwards. The purchasing of the tickets can be done online via the GSC Website, Mobile App or via the Box Office counter and ticketing kiosk.
