19 Jan – "Insidious: The Last Key" producer Jason Blum has recently voiced his crossover hopes for two of the horror franchises under his Blumhouse Productions banner. There just might someday be a movie uniting both the "Insidious" universe and the "Sinister" universe as one, Blum told Canadian TV Channel CinePop. "We almost did 'Insidious' and 'Sinister' and I still feel like we might do that, so I think so. I think we're going to cross our worlds at some point. I don't know how yet, but we're going to try," said Blum regarding the potential of a crossover movie. The "Insidious" franchise started in 2011 and currently stands at four movies. The fourth instalment, "Insidious: The Last Key", opened this month and has so far made more than USD96 million worldwide. The franchise has a total of USD468.6 million gross at the international box office. Meanwhile, "Sinister" has two movies released in 2012 and 2015, respectively. Worldwide, the combined gross of both movies is USD130.6 million. If the "Insidious" and "Sinister" worlds were to collide, the plot might run something along the line of psychic medium Elise Rainier going into the Further to go after Bughuul – this evil deity's other name pretty much sums up his character: the Eater of Children. Aside from the potential crossover, fans of Bughuul might not see him return to the big screen anytime soon since Blum has previously said that there will be no third instalment for "Sinister". However, Blum confirmed that there will be further instalments for "Insidious", depending on how "The Last Key" performs at the cinema. If everything goes well, fans could be looking at least two to three more follow-ups, either to match or go beyond the six-film run of another popular Blumhouse horror franchise, "Paranormal Activity".
