31 Dec – Hong Kong director Ringo Lam's recent passing has certainly cast sorrow among his family, friends and fans. Being a renowned filmmaker, that social circle doesn't include just the Asian film industry but also Hollywood.

One of the actors who expressed sadness over the director's death is action star Jean-Claude Van Damme, who posted across his multiple social media platforms a photo of him and the late director, along with the caption: "I'm deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Ringo Lam."

We worked together on "Maximum Risk", "In Hell" and "Replicant". My heart goes out to his family, friends and loved ones."

The two first met on Lam's first American movie, 1996's "Maximum Risk", before reuniting in 2001 for "Replicant" and lastly, as mentioned in Van Damme's post, working together in 2003 for "Replicant".

Lam was discovered unconscious in bed by his wife last Saturday, Apple Daily reported. Even though his wife called an ambulance, by the time it turned up, the acclaimed director had breathed his last.

Lam was 63.
