28 Mar – In her 37 years of acting in movies, a superhero is one of the roles that Angelina Jolie has yet to play. However, that might change soon.
The 43-year-old is reportedly in talks with Marvel Studios for a starring role in "The Eternals", according to The Hollywood Reporter.
While the role was not specified, it is speculated that the actress would be playing Sersi, one of the two characters revealed last year as the focus of the movie. The other character is Ikaris, though so far no actor has been named to play him.
If Jolie says yes, this will be her first venture into superhero movies but not her first comic book-to-screen adaptation acting gig. She previously starred in the 2008 movie "Wanted", which was adapted from Mark Millar's comic book series of the same name.
Jolie has mostly been working behind the camera since 2017, directing "First They Killed My Father" and executive producing "The Breadwinner". However, this year, she makes her silver screen comeback in "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil".
She will also be seen starring in fantasy drama film "Come Away" and action thriller "Those Who Wish Me Dead".
Chloe Zhao will be directing "The Eternals" from a script by cousins Matthew and Ryan Firpo.
The movie will feature a love story between Sersi, who possesses the power of transmutation, and Ikaris, who channels cosmic energy that enhance his senses.
Of the many characters in the "Eternals" comic series, which the movie will of course be based on, one has actually made it to the big screen and appeared in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and four "Avengers" movies. It is none other than Thanos, though no direct reference to his Eternals background was made in the movies.
