Model-actor Godfrey Gao dies after collapsing on Chinese reality show


Godfrey Gao made his Hollywood debut in 2013's "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones".

27 Nov – Model-actor Godfrey Gao has reportedly died following his collapse on the set of a Chinese reality show.

The 35-year-old was filming "Chasing Me" in the Chinese city of Ningbo when he collapsed, reportedly due to a heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital when bystanders' attempt to revive him failed.

Hong Kong's Apple Daily reported that the actor was later pronounced dead at the hospital.


An official statement on his death has yet to be made.

Gao was born in Taipei to a Malaysian mother (a Peranakan Chinese from George Town, Penang) and Taiwanese father (Shanghainese but raised in Taiwan) but his family moved to Canada in his childhood. He returned to Taiwan in 2004 to begin his career as a model and an actor.

His works include both on the big screen and small screen, and he also made his Hollywood debut in 2013 as Magnus Bane in "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones".
