Has live-action "Little Mermaid" found its Prince Eric?

Who's got the lustrous hair to pull off this Prince's look?

18 Jul – There's plenty of fish in the sea but there's only one Prince Eric for Ariel, and Disney might have found its prince for the live-action version of "The Little Mermaid".

Harry Styles, of One Direction fame, might just be the one stealing Ariel's heart in the Rob Marshall-directed movie, if the latest report from Collider is to be believed.

Reportedly, the 25-year-old English singer, who made his acting debut as a soldier in Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk", is in talks to play the prince.

He's proven he's got the vocals to belt out the songs that will accompany the live-action adaptation and he's also proven that he can handle acting – though it remains to be seen whether he can carry a starring role.

Before the report came out, several other names have been suggested by fans to fill the role, including Henry Cavill ("Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"), Jordan Fisher (TV's "Teen Wolf") and singer Jimin from K-pop boyband BTS.

At the moment, the only confirmed cast is Halle Bailey, one half of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, who will star as Ariel.

Others who are still in talks are Melissa McCarthy, who is said to play Ursula, as well as Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina, who will play Ariel's friends, Flounder the fish and Scuttle the seagull, respectively.

If Styles lands the part, this will be his first leading role. He was previously among the actors eyed to star as young Elvis Presley in a Baz Luhrmann-helmed biopic but that role ultimately went to singer-actor Austin Butler.
