22 Jun – After a sexual assault allegation against Ansel Elgort broke last weekend, the "Billionaire Boys Club" actor took to Instagram yesterday to deny it. "I was distressed to see the social media posts about me that have been circulating in the past 24 hours," the 26-year-old stated. "I cannot claim to understand Gabby's feelings but her description of events is simply not what happened. I have never and would never assault anyone. What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship. "Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my behavior when I disappeared. "As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed at the way I acted. I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy." However, instead of clearing the air, his post has left his fans divided. On one side of the fence, fans are voicing their support for him and believe that he is not at fault. While on the other side, fans are stating that he shouldn't be let off the hook so easily since he did sleep with a minor and the victim should be believed.
Among the comments left on the post are "The lack of sincerity in this response is almost insulting", "With this type of "apology" it makes me feel like you definitely did it", "he..................literally said nothing in this", and "You didn't even address the allegations I-". The last comment there refers to the fact that while the actor did speak up about him being accused of sexually assaulting an underaged teen, he, however, side-stepped the other allegations outlined in Gabby's lengthy Twitter statement that she captioned "My story with Ansel Elgort". Gabby's Twitter account has since been deleted but in the statement she revealed that she, as a fan, contacted him on Twitter two days before her 17th birthday and got the actor's private Snapchat. When they met up and had sexual intercourse, she stated that she was sobbing in pain as it was her first time and wanted him to stop but he continued and merely responded with "we need to break you in". The actor also asked for nude photos from the then-17-year-old Gabby and a threesome with one of her "dance friends". Gabby stated that she remained quiet for years as he had said it could "ruin his career". However, having experienced PTSD years after the incident, she is speaking up now as she is ready to heal. Elgort marks the second "Billionaire Boys Club" star to face allegations of sexual assault. He previously slammed Kevin Spacey, whom he also starred with in "Baby Driver", when the latter was accused by several men of sexually harassing them. The allegations affected Spacey's acting career, with him being dropped from several projects. It remains to be seen whether Elgort will face the same fate. He is currently slated to be seen next in "West Side Story", leading the Steven Spielberg-helmed musical drama film. He will also be seen in upcoming TV series "Tokyo Vice", which he stars in as well as executive produced.
