24 Jun – Colin Trevorrow started his "Atlantis" project since 2018, but the director has only finally announced it recently.

"Atlantis" is described as a thriller about the titular mythical city, which Trevorrow will be producing with his Metronome Film Co., Deadline reported.

Dante Harper ("Edge of Tomorrow", "Alien: Covenant") will be writing the script based on the story by Trevorrow himself and Matt Charman ("Bridge of Spies").

Instead of an underwater Kingdom, the titular city is a lost continent in the Indian Ocean between Africa, India and Oceania, which houses a multicultural civilisation that has its own advanced technology.

As mentioned, Trevorrow started the project a couple of years back. He kept mum about it until now so that his creative team, with production designer Kevin Jenkins ("Star Wars: Episode IX", "Jurassic World: Dominion") heading it, will have time to do further research and build the world before the script is penned.

"Atlantis" marks Metronome's second project at Universal Pictures, with the first being sci-fi musical "Space Opera" that was announced in 2018.

Apart from these movies, Trevorrow is also preparing to resume filming "Jurassic World: Dominion". The final instalment of the dino trilogy had to halt production back in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the moment, it is still set for a 2021 theatrical release.
