5 May – With "Tiger King" being the roaring success that it is, a scripted series revolving around the show's star, Joe Exotic, is now in the making. Starring in the series will be Hollywood's own wild actor Nicolas Cage, who will be portraying Joe Exotic himself, according to Variety. This marks the first regular television role for Cage, who is well known for his mixed bag of praiseworthy and eyebrow-raising works on the big screen. The upcoming Cage-starring series will consist of eight episodes, with Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios producing. It is based on Leif Reigstad's Texas Monthly article, "Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey into the World of a Man Gone Wild". The show will explore how Joe Schreibvogel becomes Joe Exotic, a man who – even at the risk of losing his sanity – does whatever he can to keep his park. Dan Lagana, showrunner of Netflix's "American Vandal", will be writing the series as well as serving as showrunner and executive producer. "Tiger King" premiered on Netflix in late March and the docuseries quickly became a media sensation, amassing 34.3 million unique viewers in its first 10 days of availability, as per the Nielsen data.
