"Talentime" is one of the Yasmin Ahmad films showing on Netflix from this 18 December.

15 Dec – Coming to Netflix this Friday, 18 December, are three movies helmed by the renowned Yasmin Ahmad.

The late Malaysian filmmaker was well known for making thought-provoking films that are widely enjoyed by fellow Malaysians, which global audience will soon be able to enjoy as well.

The three movies releasing on Netflix are "Rabun", "Mukhsin" and "Talentime".

"Rabun" was the award-winning filmmaker's debut film, starring M. Rajoli (Pak Atan), Kartina Aziz (Mak Inom), Ho Yu-hang (Elvis), Norkhiriah (Orked) and Rozie Rashid (Cik Nor).

A quirky and heartwarming tale inspired by the filmmaker's own parents after her father turned partially blind as a result of diabetes, "Rabun" follows Pak Atan and Mak Inom, who, tired of the city life, return to the countryside for a slower pace of lifestyle but soon realise that life in the countryside may not be that pleasant after all.

"Rabun" and "Mukhsin" will also be available on Netflix from this Friday.

Meanwhile, "Mukhsin" is the final movie in the "Orked" trilogy, which includes "Sepet" and "Gubra". Starring Mohd Syafie Naswip (Mukhsin), Sharifah Aryana (Orked), Salehuddin Abu Bakar (Husin) and Sharifah Aleya (Mak Inom), the film was awarded the Grand Prix of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk for Best Feature Film at the 57th Berlin International Film festival.

Set in 1993 Sekinchan, Sabak Bernam, "Mukhsin" tells the story of 10-year-old Orked's first love. Orked arrives with her elder brother and aunt to spend the school holidays in the village. She catches the eye of Mukhsin, who becomes tormented by his love for Orked when their relationship remains a platonic one.

Last but not least, "Talentime" is a touching film set against the soundtrack by Malaysian composer Pete Teo.

It stars Pamela Chong (Melur), Mahesh Jugal Kishor (Mahesh), Mohd Syafie Naswip (Hafiz), Howard Hon Kahoe (Kahoe), Azean Irdawaty (Embun), Noor Adibah (Cikgu Adibah) and Harith Iskander (Harith).

"Talentime" follows Melur, an Anglo-Malay girl with a melodious voice, and Mahesh, a deaf and mute Indian boy who is enthralled by the Talentime competition finalist but his family is against their relationship. Another one of the seven Talentime finalists, Hafiz, uses music to cope with the pressures of dividing time between school and his mother, who has been hospitalised with brain tumour.
