22 Apr – The sequel to the 2013 film, "47 Ronin" is coming up and two female writers have been tapped to pen the upcoming project. Aimee Garcia, most known for her role as Ella Lopez in Netflix's "Lucifer", will be collaborating with New York Times bestselling author and former WWE Superstar AJ Lee (now known as AJ Mendez) to work on the movie, which will be directed by "Mulan" actor and stunt choreographer Ron Yuan.
Said Garcia, "AJ and I are excited to write a diverse and inclusive action film. Director Ron Yuan's vision to blend martial arts, horror, cyberpunk and action was inspiring and we'd like to thank the team at Universal 1440 Entertainment for being so supportive." Mendez added, "As creators of colour, we're honoured to be part of a modern, multicultural story with powerful female leads." The original Ronin 47 film was directed by Carl Rinsch and written by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini from a story conceived by Morgan and Walter Hamada. Starring Keanu Reeves, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Ko Shibasaki, the story revolves around a band of samurai who set out to avenge the death and dishonour of their master at the hands of a ruthless shogun.
