17 Aug – While part one of the epic sci-fi film "Dune" has yet to be released in theatres, its director Denis Villenueve revealed that the second movie will be centred on the character played by actress Zendaya.

In an interview with Italian magazine Il Venerdi di Repubblica, Villenueve stated that he is excited about getting back to work on the second part, revealing that Zendaya's character will have a more prominent role in part two.

"I can't wait to shoot the second part of Dune to get [Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya] back together. Knowing that in the next chapter Zendaya will be the protagonist of the story," he said.

The movie is based on Frank Herbert's 1965 sci-fi fiction, "Dune"

Zendaya plays Chani in the movie, the Fremen wife and legal concubine of protagonist Paul Atreides who was put in charge of protecting Paul after he flees into the desert.

The character has been portrayed previously by Sean Young (in David Lynch's 1984 film "Dune"), and by Barbora Kodetová in the John Harrison miniseries "Frank Herbert's Dune" (2000) and the sequel, "Frank Herbert's Children of Dune" (2003).

"Dune", which wrapped up filming in July 2019, boasts a star-studded cast that include Dave Bautista, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem.

The Frank Herbert adaptation is set to be released at the Venice International Film Festival on 3 September, with theatrical release set to be in late October.
