28 Oct - After months hunting for a replacement director, it was revealed that the upcoming Ryan Gosling-starrer, "Wolfman" has finally found one in the likes of Derek Cianfrance.

According to Deadline, the filmmaker, who has stepped in to replace Leigh Whannell, is already familiar with Gosling, having directed him on movies "Place Beyond the Pines" and "Blue Valentine".

He is also set to pen the script for the project, which sees Gosling producing alongside Ken Kao and Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions.

"Horror movies were my first love - my entry into what cinema was capable of narratively, psychologically and aesthetically," said Cianfrance, who earned an Oscar nomination last year for his writing for "Sound of Metal".

"Coupled with the opportunity to collaborate with Ryan again, this is truly a dream come true. I'm thrilled and inspired to work with the good folks at Blumhouse and Universal to bring this monster back to life in our collective unconscious," he added.

Details are still scarce about the upcoming project, though it is believed that the film will not repeat the 2010 supernatural horror starring Benicio del Toro, which was set in the late 1900s.

Leigh Whannell parted ways earlier this year due to scheduling.
