22 Apr – Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin recently applauded the production team of local movie, "Paramapatham", following the film's success at several international film festivals. Zahidi, who spoke to the media at the launch of the trailer and song for the said movie, stated that "Paramapatham" has now entered into the Malaysia Book of Records, Asian World Records and Grand Asian Book of World Records as the local Tamil movie has garnered the most number of international awards. The film previously won various awards including Best Cinematography at the Norwegian Film Festival, Best Feature at the Tagore Film Festival as well as Best Producer at the Coimbatore Film Festival.
"The film garnered 18 awards at the international level [and] is the one Malaysian movie that has gained a good enough market in India. So, [the ministry] wish to offer our congratulations," he said. Zahidi continued, "It isn't just a great film, but it also has great actors, singers and songs ... everything meets the quality needed to venture into the international stage and that's why this movie won awards." The film, directed and starred by brothers Viknes Perrabu and Thanesh Perrabu, is a fantasy-thriller that tells the story of Aroon, an archeologist whose life began to unravel after finding an ancient board game engraved with the word "Paramapatham" during his journey with three other friends. It is set to be released in cinemas nationwide beginning 29 April.
