2 Aug – Seven years after making his directorial debut in "The Water Diviner", Russell Crowe is back in the director's seat for an upcoming movie titled, "Poker Face". According to Collider, the actor is set to not only helm the said movie, but to star in it as well alongside former Mr Miley Cyrus Liam Hemsworth, Hemsworth's sister-in-law Elsa Pataky (a.k.a Mrs Chris Hemsworth), and interestingly enough, Wu-Tang Clan frontman RZA.
The story of "Poker Face" follows a tech billionaire who finds himself caught up in the world of high stakes poker and international finance. It was originally planned to be filmed in Miami, but was moved to Sydney so that Crowe could showcase the city's impressive landmarks... ...or maybe because it's also easier since he's already there! "We are very appreciative to have the opportunity to safely film in Australia alongside the talented people who live and work in the country," said executive producers Maggie Betts, Celine Rattray, Sophie Mas, and Len Amato. It is noted that there has been a lot of Hollywood movies being filmed in Australia for the past couple of years, including Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings" and "Thor: Love and Thunder", Nicole Kidman's "Roar", and Natalie Portman's HBO project, "Days of Abandonment".
