19 Jul – "Alive with COVID-19", the first Malaysian documentary about the COVID-19 pandemic, will have a limited release at GSC Mid Valley from 20 to 24 July. Jointly produced by Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCare) and the Chinese Film Association of Malaysia (CFAM), the documentary features various interviews with low-income Malaysians, frontliners, and foreign workers who survived COVID-19. It will also take a look at the effects of the coronavirus on their loved ones, their own health and livelihoods.
Director Dennis Lai, who spoke to the media at the launch of the "Alive with COVID-19" recently, stated that the documentary was filmed around Klang Valley over the last two years in different stages of the Movement Control Order. "It was stressful for the team to shoot in high-risk areas during the most severe period of the pandemic, but I reminded myself to never forget about safety. I am grateful for all that helped the documentary," he said. With it being MyCare's first venture into feature film, CEO Kamarul Zaman Shaharul Anuar said that the documentary is an eye-opener to all Malaysians. "It depicts true stories of COVID-19 victims who fought and won. Some of them are not fully recovered, but they chose to share their stories with us," he said. Proceeds from the film will go to MyCare for its humanitarian projects.
