5 May – Universal has finally found the replacement director for "Fast X" in "Now You See Me" helmer, Louis Leterrier. As reported on THR, everything is currently in discussion, but that the movie, which has been temporarily halted due to Justin Lin's unexpected departure, will be back on track in a matter of days. Last month, Lin surprised many by announcing his departure a few days after starting production for the tenth and penultimate "Fast and Furious" movie. "With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as director of Fast X, while remaining with the project as a producer," he said in a statement.
There were rumours that Lin exited the franchise he has been with for many years due to multiple rewrites and compromises with the studio as well as lead star Vin Diesel, though the director has made no comments on the particulars. This is not the first time Universal has worked with Leterrier, having produced the director's "The Incredible Hulk". Leterrier has also worked on other big budget projects and action flicks including "Clash of the Titans".
