26 Jan – Malaysian director Teddy Chin recently revealed his own reasons for why he decided to make a movie about interracial love for his upcoming Lunar New Year film, "Kongsi Raya".

The "Miss Andy" director, who spoke to the media at the press conference of the said movie, stated that he started off wanting only to write a comedy movie, but realising that there is something that is unique about being Malaysian that he wants to share on the big screen.

"I was thinking, for foreigners, Malaysian culture is very special and racial integration is our pride," he said.

The movie stars Wilson Lee and Qasrina Karim, with Harith Iskander and Erra Fazira as Qasrina's parents

He also admitted to be inspired by the late award-winning filmmaker Yasmin Ahmad, who had made movies on interracial relationships like "Sepet" and "Gubra".

"To a certain extent, you can say that this is a tribute to her. But at the same time, I feel that everybody needs comedy now, which is why this movie came to be," he said.

The upcoming movie stars Wilson Lee as Jack and Qasrina Karim as Sharifah, whose parents are against their relationship that it ended up with both families challenging each other to compete in a televised cooking competition.

It also stars Harith Iskander, Erra Fazira, Chew Kin Wah, Ong Ai Leng, and Teddy himself.

The upcoming movie will be coming to cinemas on 3 February
