23 Aug – It looks like nostalgia trumps superheroes after all as "Top Gun: Maverick" surpasses "Avengers: Infinity War" as the sixth highest grossing movie in US box office. The Tom Cruise-starrer has now collected over USD 683 million in North America alone, successfully overtaking the Russo Brothers' 2018 film, which made USD 678 million at the US box office. However, when it comes to the highest grossing films worldwide, the sequel to the 1986 film has yet to break the top ten, while "Infinity War" clocking in with USD 2.048 billion is at number four.
However, there is also a possibility for the film to break more records despite it landing on home entertainment soon, as there is not much competition on the horizon, according to Variety. The next blockbuster film, the Marvel superhero sequel, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", will only arrive in November.
