13 Feb – A new special cinema is now in construction at Parklane City, Papar (Sabah) which will be scheduled to open in June. According to the CEO of 10Star Cinemas Onn Norshal Hamzah, they will soon be looking for 50 staff to run the cinema, with the focus to hire local residents as a way to provide employment opportunities and contributing to the local Papar community. "We need about 30 staff whom are locals whom we will train them in manning the cinema including for technical aspect, film programming, front desk as well as handling our own cinema concession food and beverage like selling pop-corn and snacks," he said. "Also, we estimate an additional 20 staff who can work as part-timers, which is optional, because we plan to make it as a 24-hour cinema showcasing movies at 12 midnight, 2am and 3am shows." Onn stated that the decision to build a cinema in the area was due to the good response from their Tawau cinema, which also hired only locals. "I am optimistic that people from the southern part like Sipitang and Lawas would stop by to watch the wee hours' shows while enjoying various food facilities due to Parklane City's strategic location which can be likened to a satellite town," he added. The cinema will have six halls, including a VIP room. It is now 65 percent completed.
