2 Nov – Singapore's film studios - Aggregate Films and IFA Media, are set to conduct a nationwide audition in Malaysia to look for young actors for their new film, "Ah Girl". Looking to cast two child actors, the upcoming film will be directed by award-winning short film director Priscilla Ang Geck Geck, whose said movie will be based on the director's own childhood years. Her feature script, "Ah Girl" won the Southeast Asia Fiction Film Lab (SEAFIC) Open SEA Fund Award 2018. Set in Singapore of the 1990s, "Ah Girl" revolves around a child who is "going through the stress of that situation and having to make important decisions that will affect her life to come".
"We hope to discover and bring fresh faces to screen, giving the cast ensemble (Singaporean and Malaysian actors) a refreshing dynamic," said producer and casting director, Josclynne Kua. The auditions will take place during the school holidays in December, as well as 10 February to 10 March in Malaysia, with details to be distributed to schools, agencies, acting schools throughout Malaysia. Ang's first debut film, "Broken Crayon", received a few accolades and won the Best Short film award in the Singapore Short Film Festival 2013. The film talks about a child's sexual abuse story.
