25 Apr – Filmmaker Guy Ritchie recently admitted that the tragedy that had befallen US cinematographer Halyna Hutchins has changed the whole situation when it comes to using real weapon on movie sets.

The British director shared in an interview with Newsweek that his latest movie, "The Covenant", in which Jake Gyllenhaal plays a US Army sergeant returning to Afghanistan, used Airsoft pellet guns for their scenes involving the war.

"That whole thing has changed now, the whole game has changed," he said. "We haven't used a real weapon since then. So, there were no real weapons."

"It's the first shoot that we had, which I have to tell you, it's a tremendous relief for all of us," Ritchie said.

As for the Airsoft pellet gun, which fires small, biodegradable plastic pellets, Ritchie stated that they look as good as real weapons but that no one can get into trouble.

Halyna Hutchins passed away in October 2021 on the set of the western movie, "Rust" after actor Alec Baldwin discharged a prop revolver which contained a real bullet. The actor had since denied that he pulled the trigger on the cinematographer.
