17 Nov – Taika Waititi recently revealed that he will not be involved in the fifth instalment of Marvel superhero movie, "Thor", though no such project has been announced for the time being. In a recent interview with Business Insider, the New Zealander, who is currently promoting his new sports comedy, "Next Goal Wins", stated that he has no knowledge regarding rumours that Marvel is proceeding with movie number five without him, but that he won't be able to do it anyway.
"I know that I won't be involved... I'm going to concentrate on these other films that I've signed on for," he said.
It is noted that Waititi has several projects he plans to realise, from the adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky's graphic novel "The Incal" to the adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's novel "Klara and the Sun." "So that's six, seven years gone. I'd imagine another 'Thor' would be a lot sooner than that... But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris," he said. It is noted that Waititi was highly praised for his work on "Thor: Ragnarok", which made USD 865 million at the box office in 2017. However, his next entry, the 2022 "Thor: Love and Thunder" was universally panned by critics and cinemagoers alike for being too cartoonish.
