7th Malaysia International Film Festival opens with stellar lineup and ceremonies

The 7th MIFFest is launched

22 Jul - The 7th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) has recently commenced with grand celebrations at The Exchange TRX, marking the start of a week-long cinematic extravaganza.

Joanne Goh, Founder and President of MIFFest, emphasised the festival's mission to create unforgettable cinematic experiences in her speech, saying, "MIFFest is not just about films, it's about celebrating the art of storytelling and the diverse voices that bring these stories to life."

Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib, CEO of the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), also graced the stage, expressing his support and highlighting the collaborative efforts behind MIFFest, while ambassador Bront Palarae, delivered a heartfelt speech, celebrating the festival's spirit and commitment to diverse cinematic voices.

The highlight of the evening was the eagerly awaited premiere of "Indera," directed by Woo Ming Jin and starring Shaheizy Sam, Azira Shafinaz and Samara Kenzo. Supported by FINAS and presented by Lomo Pictures and Greenlight Pictures, "Indera" captivated the audience with its masterful blend of psychological horror and emotional depth.

This year's theme, "Uncaged," is brought to life with an impressive lineup of 50 films from 30 countries, presented in more than 35 languages. The selection reflects MIFFest's dedication to breaking boundaries and spotlighting unique stories.

Another significant highlight was MIFFest's collaboration with foodpanda, which presented the short film "Good Things Take Time," a tribute to the arduous yet rewarding journey of filmmaking. This partnership reinforces the festival's mission to celebrate the art and craft of cinema.

The opening ceremony has set an inspiring tone for the rest of the festival. Over the next week, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in an array of screenings, insightful discussions, and exciting events. Starting tomorrow, film enthusiasts can dive into the diverse film offerings at GSC MyTown and GSC LaLaport BBCC. Don't miss out on this extraordinary cinematic experience!
