Animasia Studio, Bawah Tanah & Komet Productions collab for "Kisah Bawah Tanah"

"Kisah Bawah Tanah" will feature reimagined South East Asian ghosts and ghouls
1 Aug - Animasia Studio Sdn Bhd and Bawah Tanah Sdn Bhd are thrilled to announce its new collaborative partnership with Komet Productions Sdn Bhd to elevate the upcoming "Kisah Bawah Tanah" intellectual property (IP) to unprecedented heights.

"Kisah Bawah Tanah", an animated horror-comedy series featuring reimagined Southeast Asian folklore, is slated for release in 2025. A groundbreaking series that transcends age boundaries, the series will pave the way for a new era of diverse storytelling from Southeast Asia, a region already known for its thriving children's animation industry.

Currently in production, the first season of "Kisah Bawah Tanah" will consist of 26 eleven-minute episodes, following best friends Sam and Zack as they navigate a world teeming with creatures that have long haunted the imaginations of Southeast Asia.

Komet Productions, led by industry veteran Ahmad Izham Omar, brings a wealth of experience and unbridled creativity to the project. Izham previously served as CEO of Primeworks Studios and Executive Director of Content & Creative at Disney+ Southeast Asia.

Komet Productions will also play a key role in expanding the IP's potential through strategies for licensing, promotions, distribution and merchandising. Komet's vision is also to steer the "Kisah Bawah Tanah" brand into a multi-faceted franchise, encompassing video games, a spin-off micro-series, on-ground experiential attractions, direction for the soundtrack and music scoring as well as the development of a feature film.

Izham said, "We view 'Kisah Bawah Tanah' as a pivotal step in maturing Malaysian animation beyond the children's market. We're blending horror, comedy, and our rich local folklore to create animation that entertains and resonates with audiences worldwide."

Hendra Wardi, co-creator of "Kisah Bawah Tanah", added, "Komet's creative energy is a perfect match for the madcap humour of 'Kisah Bawah Tanah'. With their support, our ambitions have grown, and we're confident that this collaboration will propel the series and brand to new heights. Everyone has stories that spooked them as kids, and now it's time to share the ones that have resonated through generations here in Southeast Asia."

"Kisah Bawah Tanah", a co-production between Animasia Studios and Spaceboy Studios, emerged as the winner of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation's (MDEC) 2018 Intellectual Property Creators Challenge contest and has since received ongoing support from MDEC's Digital Content Grant programme.

This announcement also marks a significant milestone for both Komet Productions and Animasia Studio, with the former celebrating its first anniversary and the latter commemorating its nineteenth year in the animation industry.
